Cats mistake revealed as Judi Dench's character spotted with human hand and wedding ring

A huge mistake in panned new musical Cats has been revealed online.

Following the reports that Universal was sending an “improved” version of the film to more than a thousand cinemas at the insistence of director Tom Hooper, an image from the film has surfaced showing Judi Dench‘s feline character with CGI fur all over her body – save for her hand.

The shot, which is said to occur near the end of the film, shows the character Old Deuteronomy with a human hand that can be seen wearing Dench’s wedding ring.

This is just one of several moments Hooper has undoubtedly attempted to clean up after admitting he completed the film hours before the film’s New York premiere last week.

According to a letter obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, the new version – which features “some improved visual effects” – will be shown in most cinemas from Tuesday (24 December).

Universal is insisting that cinema employees replace the current print of Cats as soon as they possibly can.

Since the film’s first screening, the adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s successful musical has received an onslaught of negative reviews and poor box office sales.

Following its mauling by critics, which included a zero-star review, the film failed to fare much better at the box office, grossing just $2.6m (£1.9m) on its opening day.

The film is estimated to have cost between $85-100m (£65m-77m).

Cats also stars Jennifer Hudson, Idris Elba, Jason Derulo and Taylor Swift.
