Cats struggle in meet hosted by St. Pius

Jan. 24—ALBUQUERQUE — Clovis High's boys won six matches, but did not earn a top-four finish in any of the 10 weight classes they competed in the Sartan Scuffle Invite, hosted by St. Pius H.S.

The Wildcats finished last in the 15-school boys event with 21 points, two behind St. Michael's. Atrisco Heritage won the tournament with 221 points, while Miyamura and Volcano Vista finished in a tie for second place at 166.

Senior Michael Tree at 172 pounds and freshman Kaleb King at heavyweight both went 2-2 for the weekend, while sophomore Riley Williams and sophomore Noah Lyles at 152 were both 1-2. Meantime, eighth-grader Connor McQuiggan at 107, sophomore Kaell Berry at 128, freshman Nolan Rodriguez at 133, junior Fidel Madrid at 139 and senior Samaj Satchel at 215 all went 0-2 for the weekend.

The Lady Wildcats had just one entrant in the meet. Junior Ashley Moron dropped both of her matches at 107 pounds.

The Cats and Lady Cats are scheduled to return to Albuquerque this weekend for a tournament hosted by Volcano Vista.
