The Cats Trailer Has Arrived

Social media has mixed reactions.

After nearly a year of waiting, the first trailer for the movie adaptation of the Cats musical has arrived. There had been some speculation about how the actors in the film would be turned into cats, and it seems social media was not prepared for what Hollywood had in mind.

The trailer includes the first look at the film's stars, including Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, and James Corden styled as their cat counterparts, and TBQH, a lot of people are terrified. Sure, there is the traditional singing and dancing expected of the film, but somehow, the movie's use of "digital fur technology" has resulted in a clip that one user deemed more upsetting than the trailer for It: Chapter 2.

There have been a lot of jokes on the internet, comparing the look of the cats to the viral FaceApp and Snapchat filters. Some noted that Harry Potter has already been there and done that with "digital fur technology." One person questioned why Emma Watson wasn't chosen to star in the movie, writing, "When the producers of #Cats don’t cast Emma Watson despite the fact that she has relevant 👏 work 👏 experience."

Although some fans are still reeling from their first look at the film, others aren't as surprised, and pointed out that the musical is known for its "weird" costuming and staging. Others were quick to notice that the dancing and sets featured in this first look are mesmerizing, tweeting, "Open your mind people. Cats is a classic for a reason."

Moviegoers have some time to decide if they'll be purchasing a ticket for Cats when it opens on December 20, but in the meanwhile, the internet is providing more than enough entertainment.
