Cause of apartments fire in South Brunswick under investigation

SOUTH BRUNSWICK – More than a dozen residents were displaced in a three-alarm fire early Friday in the Royal Oaks Apartment Complex off Route 1.

Township police and firefighters responded around 12:30 a.m. on a report of a fire on Buttonwood Court where they reported heavy fire at the rear and heavy smoke at the front of the building, South Brunswick Deputy Chief of Police Jim Ryan said.

The occupants were already out of the home and authorities helped evacuate adjacent apartments, Ryan said.

Firefighters from Monmouth Junction, Kendall Park, Kingston and a dozen other fire companies responded to fight the blaze, which was put under control in under 30 minutes Ryan said.
