Cause of Red Feather Lakes fire under investigation

Update, July 20: Two residential structures and one shed were destroyed, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.

Original: The Larimer County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of a fire in Red Feather Lakes that damaged multiple structures Sunday.

Initial reports indicate the fire started about 5 p.m. in a shed on Lone Pine Court and spread to a cabin on the same property, spokesperson David Moore said. From there, the fire spread to a cabin on the next property over and caught the grass on fire.

The fire burned the surrounding grass about 100 feet out from the cabins, but moisture on the grass from recent rain helped prevent the fire from spreading more quickly, Moore said.

Larimer County Office of Emergency Management did not respond to a question about the extent of the property damage as of noon Monday.

No one was injured in the fire, according to the sheriff's office.

Moore said the sheriff's office sent an investigator to the scene Monday to investigate the cause of the fire.

A large area near the fire was evacuated at 6 p.m. Sunday, based on the potential for the fire to spread, but once the fire was contained to the shed and two other structures about 7:20 p.m. the evacuation area was reduced and then lifted about 8:45 p.m., according to the sheriff's office.

Ramona Drive from Red Feather Circle to Lone Pine Court remained closed to vehicle traffic into late Sunday to allow for emergency vehicle access. Residents in that area could still access their properties on foot.

Larimer County commissioners on June 29 enacted fire restrictions that prohibit various activities associated with high fire danger. Here's what is and isn't allowed under the current restrictions:
