Danika Grieser was chosen to represent the commonwealth in the United States Senate Youth Program alongside 104 delegates from across the country during the program’s 60th annual Washington Week in March. The program will be held virtually this year.

The students also have a chance to interview a Supreme Court justice and speak with Pennsylvania Sens. Bob Casey and Pat Toomey.

Danika, a Princeton University-bound student who plans to study political science, will receive a $10,000 college scholarship from the Hearst Foundations for her undergraduate studies.

“I strongly believe that elected officials should have a firm understanding of the versatility of laws and legislations before coming into office, so I plan on following in my parents' footsteps and attending law school,” Danika said of her future plans.

“After practicing as an attorney, I would like to run for public office at both the local and federal levels,” she said.

State Department of Education Secretary Noe Ortega selected this year’s delegates.

During Washington Week, held from March 6-9, the student delegates will attend online meetings and briefings with senators, the president, a justice of the Supreme Court and leaders of cabinet agencies, among others.
