CB Patrick Peterson expects a free agency decision fairly quickly

Cornerback Patrick Peterson, who will officially be a free agent Wednesday afternoon for the first time in his career after a decade with the Arizona Cardinals, knows he will be playing in the NFL this coming season. He just doesn’t know exactly who that will be yet.

However, he does have some opportunities. On the latest edition of his podcast “All Things Covered” with Bryant McFadden, Peterson briefly addressed his situation in free agency.

“We’ve got a couple of teams out there,” he said. “It should happen pretty quickly, so stay tuned.”

It was reported that Peterson has three preferred teams — the Cardinals and two other teams who have been in the playoffs the last two seasons.

However, McFadden, his cousin, former teammate and cohost, speculated four teams that would fit. He cited the Cardinals, the New York Jets, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the San Francisco 49ers.

None of those other teams have been in the postseason both of the last two seasons.

The Cardinals would be a return. The Jets have the money to sign him and a new coach trying to turn things around. There is familiarity in Tampa Bay with Bruce Arians, Todd Bowles and cornerbacks coach Kevin Ross, and it is Peterson’s home state. The 49ers are intriguing as a division rival trying to snatch him away.

If Peterson is right, we should know his future today or in the next couple of days. As one of the top cornerbacks on the market, he won’t be a free agent for long.
