The Baltimore Ravens have selected countless college prospects who have blossomed into stars at the NFL level. They’ve done a phenomenal job of developing young players into key contributors, and have seen many of their draft picks play at a high level early in their careers.

In his latest 2022 NFL mock draft, Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports made picks for each selection of the first round. For the Ravens at pick No. 28, he gave the team a star linebacker in Devin Lloyd out of the University of Utah. When explaining his choice, Trappaso mentioned that he would be a chess piece for Baltimore defensive coordinator Don Martindale.

“The Ravens add a tall, rangy linebacker to their disruptive defense. He’ll be a movable chess piece for Wink Martindale.”

Lloyd stands around 6-foot-3 and weighs around 235 pounds, boasting an impressive physical frame. He has good speed, can take on blocks relatively well and can cover well due to his ability to be fluid with his movements. While he does need to improve on not over-pursuing and overrunning plays, he plays very fast, much like current Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen.

It would be interesting to see how Martindale and the rest of the Baltimore coaching staff would incorporate a player like Lloyd into their defense. He would mark the second inside linebacker taken in the first round in three drafts for the Ravens, with Queen being the first.
