LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – CBS Sports will be handling the main coverage for Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas which means the trio that includes former NFL quarterback and CBS Sports color analyst Tony Romo, CBS sportscaster Jim Nantz, and CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson will be working together again for their third Super Bowl.

8 News Now Chief Investigator George Knapp spoke with all three and discussed their upcoming roles during the big game.

“For us to be able to have the first Super Bowl ever in Las Vegas. It’s one of the high watermarks of our careers,” Nantz expressed. “I think that it’s hard to say something’s the biggest, the best, whatever, particularly when you have a city as important as Las Vegas.”

Wolfson’s main focus will be reporting on the sidelines at Allegiant Stadium during the big game.

“We only had the chance to be here once earlier this year and I thought, you know, the field is fantastic!” Wolfson expressed. “You know, the stadium itself, the fans right on top, not much room on those sidelines. So you’re feeling the fans in your face when you’re playing there and it is incredible.”

Nantz predicts Super Bowl LVIII will be one for the books.

“Everybody says ‘What’s your prediction on this game?’ My prediction for the game is the most watched show in the history of television,” Nantz said. “We’ve done it before, and you do remind yourself you’ve done it before because it does come at you like, but once the day arrives you kind of fall into that bubble that ‘We’ve been here’ and that’s comforting.”

The trio also told 8 News Now they realize they are standing on the shoulders of giants following a rich legacy of former sports commentators which include Pat Summerall, Jack Whitaker, and John Madden.

“I love the history media. I had a chance to know everyone who’s ever called the Super Bowl game. Everyone ever since Super Bowl I in 1967, a lot of them are very close friends of mine, including Pat Summerall, including Jack Whitaker, who worked Super Bowl I with Pat,” Nantz expressed. “It is a tremendous honor to be on that very short list.”

“We definitely don’t take it for granted,” Wolfson added.

8 News Now’s George Knapp asked the trio about their thoughts on the recent hire of Las Vegas Raiders Head Coach Antonio Pierce.

“I was so happy that they stuck with Antonio Pierce. I played against Antonio when he was with the Giants. He’s one of the smartest, you know, most gifted, you know, emotionally his communication is going to be at a 10,” Romo expressed. “He has the pulse of the team he did when he played. That’s a home run hire.”

Romo went on to describe the effort he saw by the Raiders this past season.

“Right now when you watch this team under him, you see that they can win a game by effort. We did that game with the Raiders and the Chiefs and they turned it around,” Romo added.
Sometimes you can win by your will and desire, and that’s what Antonio is going to help these guys.”

Nantz also mentioned Pierce’s effort at the end of the season.

“If Kansas City wins the Super Bowl on Sunday, and we all, you know, think that’s a very good possibility. Could go either way, but no one’s going to be surprised who the winner is come Sunday. But if it’s Kansas City? Antonio Pierce is going to be the last guy to beat Andy Reid in this championship season,” Nantz expressed.
