CBS4 News chief meteorologist Craig Setzer's weather outlook for South Florida.
- And I also like Fridays because it's Casual Friday at the Setzer residence.
- That's right. We weren't invited.
CRAIG SETZER: It is Casual Friday. Yeah, it's Casual Friday at the Setzer residence. And as long as the weather doesn't get too hot or it starts raining, we'll try to keep doing these Fridays for at least a little while longer. Yeah, I got up this morning to see the launch, and yep, there it was, that little tiny flame going up. Here's what's going on here right now in South Florida, our Rusty Pelican camera, where a mix of sun and clouds, a nice breeze, and temperatures not too bad across the area. 81 in Miami, 81 in Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, 83 in Key West. Stickiness scale is a four. It's A little on the humid side, 67%. East wind at 16 miles an hour.
In terms of the radar, there are a few little showers out there. This is part of moisture that is over us. It's not terribly deep, and we're not going to see a whole lot of activity, but may see a stray shower overnight tonight, a stray shower tomorrow, mainly during the afternoon. And on Sunday, a little better chance for some afternoon storms, but you can see most of the activity's offshore. It's had a hard time sustaining itself over the land.
Temperatures right now in the upper 70s to the low 80s everywhere. Beautiful afternoon, a nice ocean breeze out of the east to northeast, anywhere from about 12 to 20 miles an hour. That breeze is going to turn more southeasterly tomorrow, and that means the warmth and the humidity are going to return as well, first into the mid to upper 80s tomorrow, and then low 90s for Sunday as the winds turn more southwesterly. That's also when we'll see our chance for some showers and thunderstorms, but late in the day.
There's the satellite loop. You can see not much going on. Everybody is looking good. The overall moisture in the atmosphere, not terribly high. It's like medium to medium-low, so the only showers we'll see shouldn't be too widespread. Taking us into Sunday, that's when we see that chance for some afternoon storms. Probably late in the day if they do occur. Chances are pretty low.
And then a weak cold front comes into play next week. It's not here Monday, maybe some leftover showers around. But Tuesday and Wednesday, nice ocean breeze returns. Temperatures drop, highs in the low 80s, and looking very, very nice. And then we stay in that pattern, looks like, much of next week.
Temperatures across the country right now, they remain chilly over much of the nation. Temperatures in the 30s, 40s, 50s, and some 60s and 70s as you go to the South. Here's our forecast, then, for tonight. A nice-looking night. We'll see warm conditions, though. Temperatures in the mid-70s, maybe a stray shower, a little breezy along the beaches. Tomorrow, look for plenty of sunshine. Warm and breezy, high temperature in the mid-80s. For highs, a few spots may even be a degree or two warmer.
On the water, winds southeast at 15, seas running two to four feet, a moderate chop on the bays. Taking us through the weekend into next week, gets pretty hot, especially by Sunday. And then temperatures fall off as we get that next week cold front that comes through. But at this point, guys, we'll take any cold fronts we can get, weak, strong, whatever. Because they just keep us out of the 90s. Back to you.
