CCBOE recognizes child development center employees

Dec. 18—The Cullman County Board of Education recognized several of the district's most exceptional employees Thursday, Dec. 14, as it prepares to enter the second half of the 2023-24 school year.

Wanda Day, Samantha Surret, Anna Bagget and McKenzie Hill — all from the Child Development Center — were each awarded the CCBOE E5 Exceptional award for their dedication to working with what Superintendent Shane Barnette described as "some of our most severe babies."

Reading from the groups E5 nomination letter Barnette said, "In a classroom where students who are non-speaking and need assistance with basic daily living skills such as hygiene, bathroom routines, feeding themselves and managing meal time routines — they have difficulties communicating their wants and needs which can often result in behaviors that can be harmful to others. The adults appointed to take care of these kids are compassionate, patient, kindhearted and willing to do what others are not."

Also awarded the E5 award were: Austin Riddle — Good Hope Elementary long-term substitute teacher; Rachel Campbell — Harmony teacher; Elizabeth Watwood — recently promoted to Hanceville High/Middle School Principal.

In other business the board:

* Accepted the following resignations: Janet Mattox — Part-time EL Coordinator; Felicia Chambers — Fairview Elementary teacher; Ryan Brewer — Hanceville High School teacher; Scott Graham — Holly Pond school bus driver; Kayla Blackmon — Welti Elementary pre-K auxiliary teacher.

* Approved the following voluntary transfers: Michael Nelson — from Parkside school bus driver to Fairview High School school bus driver; Emily Brown — from Hanceville Elementary Assistant Principal/teacher to Hanceville High School Assistant Principal/teacher.

* Approved the conditional employment of the following personnel: Joy Mueller Winchester — behavior coach/interventionist; Caragan Rice — Child Development Center school bus driver; Angela Robertson — Child Development Center school bus driver; John Griggs — Child Nutrition Program maintenance technician; Matthew Griggs — Child Nutrition Program maintenance technician; Paul Woodall — Cullman Area Technology Academy HVAC instructor; Hailey Kilpatrick — Good Hope Elementary teacher; Destiny Lowe — Good Hope Elementary teacher; Troy Taylor — Hanceville Elementary assistant principal/teacher; Marissa Flanigan-Lee — Hanceville Middle School English teacher; Warren Strickland — Holly Pond school bus driver; Tess Kent — Holly Pond Elementary secondary special education teacher; Julie Ray — Parkside school bus driver; Michelle Carpenter — Welti Elementary part-time intervention teacher; Eric Vest — West Point Middle School temporary math teacher.

* Upgraded Samantha Surrett's salary to reflect her Master's Degree.

* Removed the Hanceville High School golf supplement from Ryan Brewer's contract.

* Removed the non-faculty West Point High School tennis supplement from Todd Greenlee's contract.

* Removed the West Point Middle School robotics supplement from Amanda Freeman's contract.

* Added the West Point Middle School robotics supplement to Jon Farley's contract.
