CCC&TI replaces women's basketball with volleyball

Jul. 21—Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute is discontinuing its women's basketball team and will form a volleyball team.

Over the past few years, the college struggled to recruit students for the team, President Mark Poarch said.

"It's really been a challenge for us. Sometimes we were down to five or six players," he said.

It has been down to five or six players on the team, leaving no ability for players to rest during games.

College officials plan to field a women's volleyball team in the fall semester of 2022.

Poarch said that the college had a volleyball team, but it was discontinued about a dozen years ago.

The first order of business is to identify and hire a coach, Poarch said. Following that, the coach will have a year to recruit players and market the program.
