CCC walking track to get upgrade
Dec. 11—CLOVIS — Exercise stations with instruction signs, solar-powered lights, pet waste and trash containers, and xeriscaping are expected to enhance Clovis Community College's walking track through a T-Mobile Hometown Grant awarded to the college, according to a CCC news release.
The CCC grant was among 24 Hometown Grants nationwide that T-Mobile, the telecommunications firm, awarded in small towns nationwide.
The only other New Mexico grant went to the city of Los Alamos for a co-op park, according to a T-Mobile news release.
The college has scheduled a 10:30 a.m. Thursday ceremony in its commons area to receive the grant check.
The improvements to the CCC walking track are designed to make the trail safer and enhance opportunities for exercise year-round, the CCC release said. The improvements are expected to be in place by August of next year.
CCC President Charles Nwankwo stated in the news release the walking track gets heavy use from students, college staff, and community members for walking and running, and calisthenic exercise. In addition, he said, Clovis Police use the walking tack for training and exercise.
T-Mobile stated in its news release that the goal of Hometown Grants is "to jumpstart vital community projects, to help local communities move forward on projects that build on the strengths that have always made them great places to live and work."
