CCSO: Man admits to downloading child sex abuse materials

CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — An Elizabethton man was arrested on Thursday and charged with aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor after he admitted to downloading child sex abuse material, police report.

According to the Carter County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), the department received tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding child sex abuse material shared on a social media platform by a Carter County resident.

One tip reported two videos and seven images were traced back to the IP address of Michael Logan Schultz, 22, the CCSO reported. The second tip reportedly provided a name and birthday matching Schultz, the account owner.

On Thursday, investigators, CCSO deputies, agents from Homeland Security Investigations and an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Agent for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search warrant at Schultz’s home on West G Street in Elizabethton.

During the search, Schultz admitted to downloading and possessing child sex abuse material during the time frame listed by the cyber tips, the sheriff’s office reported.

As of Friday, Schultz is being held at the Carter County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.

“I am proud of the hard work and diligence of my investigators working this case to follow the trail back to its source,” Sheriff Mike Fraley said in the release. “We will continue to pursue and prosecute those who traffic in child pornography to help make the children of our community safer.”
