CCTV Footage Shows Car Mowing Down Officer in Oakland Before Fatal Shooting on Election Night

Police in Oakland, California, have released footage of the moment a man mowed down an officer with a sedan before he was fatally shot by police on November 3.

It happened as police were responding to numerous reports across the city of looters attempting to break into businesses on election night.

This footage shows the incident at 92nd Avenue and Holly Street, where police were called to an attempted break-in at a cannabis grow operation in a commercial building.

Police said multiple people fled the scene.

In this footage, Jonathan Torres Ramirez, 20, is seen driving a white sedan onto the sidewalk as police were making arrests. Torres Ramirez misses a police officer and another suspect who was being detained. He then hits a second officer before crashing into a stop sign and reverses back over the officer on the ground.

Police said Torres Ramirez was ordered to stop five times before an officer discharged his weapon. He was pronounced dead at the scene and an investigation is underway. Credit: Oakland Police via Storyful
