CDC urges flu shots by Halloween; here’s where you can get yours in Central Florida

Flu season is here, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are urging Americans to get their flu shot by the end of the month.

CDC officials say it takes two weeks for full protection to set in, so getting it by Halloween allows you to be protected in time for the holiday season.

Seminole County

Flu shots for children and adults are available at the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County, Sanford, located at 400 W. Airport Blvd., by appointment Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Flu shots are free for children 6 months through 18 years of age. To schedule an appointment, call 407-665-3700. For more information on immunizations, click here. You may also get the flu vaccine through your health care provider, pharmacy or supermarket.

Orange County

Florida Blue Center flagship locations are hosting flu shot events this month. The events will feature food, treats, special giveaways and a variety of fun, fall-themed activities. Insurance cards from any carrier are welcome, but health insurance is not required. Flu vaccines are available to everyone age 3 and older, and a $10 Publix gift card will be available for all who get a vaccine at a Florida Blue Center.

The next events will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 434 Orlando Ave., Winter Park, on Saturday, Oct. 29, and Saturday, Nov. 12.
