Several local counties are experiencing high levels of COVID-19 transmission, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Health officials recommend that people in Cabarrus, Gaston and Rowan counties take extra precautions due to an increase of cases.
Those who are in a community with high transmission should wear a mask indoors in public places, according to the CDC. People may also need to take more precautions if they are at high risk or have a severe illness.
“I work at a supermarket so when I’m at work, I’ll definitely wear my mask because I’m inside,” said Katarina Zarrilli, of Concord.
The CDC recommends that everyone stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and get tested if they have symptoms, no matter where they live.
“Levels can be low, medium, or high and are determined by looking at hospital beds being used, hospital admissions, and the total number of new COVID-19 cases in an area,” according to the CDC’s website.
