Cedar City residents have a chance on Monday, July 31, to see in person the candidates running this year for the city council.

Slated to start with an informal meet-and-greet at 5:30 p.m., followed by a debate from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the event will be hosted and moderated by the Michael O. Leavitt Center for Politics and Public Service at Southern Utah University, inside the Great Hall at the R. Haze Hunter Conference Center on campus. The event is open to the public and free to attend.

Seven candidates vying for the three open seats on the council are scheduled to attend, including Robert S. Cox, Brittany Fisher, Kathy Long, W. Tyler Melling, Mark Mumford, Sara Ridgel and Carter Wilkey.

There is a primary election scheduled this year for Tuesday, Sept. 5, in which the field of candidates must be whittled to six before the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
