Nearly every winter, vandals damage the smooth, frozen surface of Cedarburg's ice rink at Cedar Creek Park.

This winter, security cameras captured the 11 juveniles who destroyed the ice twice, just days before it was set to open, Cedarburg police said.

The city filled the ice rink on Jan. 11. Security footage showed the ice being destroyed on Jan. 13. The city resurfaced the rink but delayed its opening again when the vandals returned on Jan.19.

The Parks and Recreation Department posted the incidents on its Facebook page.

“If this continues, we will unfortunately not be able to have the ice rink this year,” the department posted.

Security cameras at the rink are rather new, police said. The footage shows kids chipping away at imperfections in the ice, according to police. Police said they notified parents and warned the children for damaging the property.

The city opened the ice rink Jan. 21.
