Cedric Tillman update and which Tennessee football players are out against South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Tennessee football linebacker Jeremy Banks and cornerback De'Shawn Rucker will not play against against South Carolina, but wide receiver Cedric Tillman started.

Banks did not make the trip, and a Tennessee spokesperson said his absence is due to injury.

Tillman made the trip, went through warm-ups and got the start. He made a reception on the opening drive

Last week, Tillman sat out against Missouri due to injury-related precautions after going through warm-ups. After the Missouri game, coach Josh Heupel said Tillman's injury was unrelated to the ankle injury that required surgery earlier in the season.

On Monday, Heupel said he believed Tillman would be available to play against South Carolina, but he would be re-evaluated late in the week.

Tillman, a preseason All-SEC selection, was a 1,000-yard receiver last season. He has 28 catches for 336 yards and a touchdown in five games this season.

He suffered an ankle injury against Akron on Sept. 17 and missed the following four games. He returned against Kentucky on Oct. 29 and played against Georgia on Nov. 5.

Banks, a preseason All-SEC selection, is one of the Vols' best defenders. He ranks second on the team with 46 tackles this season, along with four tackles-for-loss, eight quarterback hurries, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in 10 games.
