The city of Hudson is celebrating Earth Week, April 18-23, with a week-long series of events highlighting gardening, stormwater management, recycling, biodiversity, renewable energy, and much more. There is something for everyone throughout the week, so check out the event schedule and plan to attend one or all the events.

April 18, 7:30 p.m.: Sounds of Spring Amphibian Tour - Hudson Springs Park Pavilion. Come for a tour of amphibians in Hudson while welcoming spring.

April 19, 6 – 7 pm: April Showers Rain Barrel Workshop - Hudson City Hall Community Room. Learn how to set up your own rain barrel. Registration fee is $50 for the 55-gallon barrel and downspout diverter spigot. Bring your own electric drill if possible. Register at www.hudson.oh.us/RainBarrelSignUp.

April 19, 7 – 8 p.m.: April Showers Stormwater Discussion - Hudson City Hall Community Rooms. Free educational panel with guest speakers Kate Chapel, senior project manager at Tinkers Creek Watershed Partners, and Sandy Barbic, education specialist at Summit Soil & Water Conservation District. Ask questions about storm water management and how to prevent flooding in your yard. No registration required.

April 20, 7 – 8 p.m.: Green Thumbs Gardening Workshop - Hudson City Hall Community Rooms. This workshop is best for beginner gardeners. Take home some free seeds to help you get starte.

April 21, 7 – 9:30 p.m.: Renewable Energy Night Film and Discussion - Hudson Middle School. This is a two-part event. You do not need to attend one to attend the other.

- Part 1: 7 p.m. – 8:20 p.m.: Movie Premiere Join us for Hudson’s premiere of “Happening: A Clean Energy Revolution,” a 2017 documentary by filmmaker Jamie Redford as he embarks on a journey to investigate social and economic impacts of clean energy.

- Part 2: 8:20 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.: Panel Discussion Stay for an engaging post-film discussion about alternative energy in Hudson with guest speakers: Ken Nadsady, AviSun Renewable Energy; John Voyzey, ForTec Medical; and Casey Weinstein, Ohio state representative.

April 22, 6 – 9 p.m.: Bio-Blitz – Identifying Biodiversity in Hudson. Throughout Hudson Stroll through any Hudson park or trail and be on the lookout for birds. Help build an inventory of Hudson’s biodiversity by recording what you see on the free website https://www.inaturalist.org/ (be sure to join Hudson’s team so you can see what fellow residents have spotted). The website offers the tips you need to correctly identify birds of all kinds. Investigate on your own, with a friend, or with the entire family. The person to identify the most species will win a special prize. There is no central meeting place for this event.

April 23, 10 – 11:30 a.m.: Plog Gazebo Green Sponsored by GoGreenGo. This Hudson Plog will help clean up Hudson by groups picking up litter throughout the city. Bags, gloves, and litter grabbers will be provided. You are welcome to bring your own supplies if you prefer.

April 23, Noon – 4 p.m.: Earth Week Grand Finale Celebration! - Hudson City Hall. Visit vendors from local and regional environmental organizations like the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Summit Metro Parks, Tinkers Creek Watershed Partners and more. There will be a free collection truck for paper shredding, a free collection truck for e-waste (old electronics), a free electric vehicle (EV) car show, live music, a youth art exhibit, and more.
