Celebrate the Fourth of July in Shreveport with fireworks, festivals and fun runs

Shreveport and surrounding areas are gearing up to celebrate the Fourth of July and there are different events happening all around to show your patriotism.

From races to fireworks to festivals, here's everything happening Fourth of July weekend.

Firecracker 5K Race for Research

Sportspectrum's 38th annual Firecracker 5K returns to the Mall St. Vincent in Shreveport on Monday.

This year's title sponsor is the Spine Institute of Louisiana Foundation. The Spine Institute in a not-for-profit organization whose research to improve spine treatments and develop new ones have helped thousands of patients in the Ark-La-Tex. All donations over $10 will receive a special "I've Got Your Back" pin with the proceeds benefiting spine research.

The kids fun run will take place at 7:30 a.m. Check-in is at 7 a.m. in the Mall St. Vincent parking lot behind Sears.

The 5K will start and finish at the Mall St. Vincent parking lot behind Sears. The course runs through the historic South Highland Subdivision that provides a scenic and challenging race for runners, walkers and sightseers. Check-in is from 7 - 7:45 a.m.

It's $30 to register for the 5K through Sunday and $40 on race day. For the kids half mile fun run, registration is $12 through Saturday and $15 on race day. Visit the Run Sign Up event page to register online.

Freedom Celebration at Cypress Baptist

If you're looking to celebrate a little early, Cypress Baptist Church will be hosting their annual Freedom Celebration on Sunday from 7 - 10 p.m.

Come out for a night of entertainment, face painting, food trucks, a car show and a fireworks show by Pyromania Fireworks. A variety of food vendors will be present offering everything from seafood to BBQ to sweet treats and more. The car show will be showcasing all types of vehicles including classic and exotic cars, trucks, roadsters and jeeps.

Cypress Baptist is located at 4701 Palmetto Rd. in Benton.

Bring the whole family to Airline Baptist to celebrate Independence Day on the front lawn with music, food trucks, fellowship and fireworks. This free event is Sunday and begins at 7 p.m. with a fireworks show happening at dark. Airline Baptist Church is located at 4007 Airline Dr. in Bossier City.

Blanchard's Independence Day Celebration

Blanchard Medical and Willis Knighton are throwing an Independence Day celebration on Monday from 5:30 - 10:30 p.m. for a day of live music, food trucks and fireworks. Bring blankets or chairs and your coolers and find a spot on the grass for a fireworks show over the water. The event is free, but parking will be $5 / car and is located at 5000 Northwood Hills Dr. in Shreveport.

Independence Day Celebration at Louisiana Downs

Louisiana Downs Casino and Racetrack are hosting a day of celebration on the 4th of July with games, a cornhole tournament, face painting and inflatables, a video game truck and road rage room, live music, food trucks and more. There will be a race that day with box seats available for reservation and a $40 BBQ buffet in the Clubhouse.

Visit the LA Downs website to book your box or sign up for the cornhole tournament. Louisiana Downs is located at 8000 E. Texas St. in Bossier City.

GLO Fest

The Shreveport and Bossier Arts Councils are coming together to bring both communities a 4th of July GLO Fest to remember. Head over to the Bossier Louisiana Boardwalk or Shreveport Riverview Plaza to see a special holiday-themed light show at the Bakowski Bridge of Lights on the Texas Street Bridge from 7 - 10 p.m.

This free festival will include music from The Molly Ringwald's, arts markets, a kids play area, food trucks, street performers and a firework show.
