Today's Friday the 13th is extra spooky because it falls in October, but it's not the first time you could get an authentic "Friday the 13th" viewing in 2023 – there was another occurrence of the "unlucky" day in January.

How many 'Friday the 13th' movies are there?

There are twelve "Friday the 13th" movies in total, including a reboot in 2009 and the 2003 Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees crossover film.

Friday the 13th (1980): The first film follows a group of camp counselors as they try to reopen Crystal Lake summer camp more than 20 years after it was closed when a young boy drowned in the lake. Mysterious killings begin to follow the counselors, and they can't help but wonder if the boy, Jason, is taking his revenge.

Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981): Sole survivor Alice is traumatized following the deaths in the first movie. Now five years later, a camp counselor training program begins near Camp Crystal Lake and violent killings begin once again.

Friday the 13th Part III (1982): Friends spend the weekend at a cabin near Crystal Lake when Jason returns, now with his infamous hockey mask, to continue his revenge.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984): Jason is believed dead and taken to the morgue, but he escapes and is on the loose once again. He returns to Crystal Lake and begins stalking a group of teenagers and young Tommy Jarvis and his family.

Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985): Five years after killing Jason, a traumatized Tommy Jarvis is institutionalized at several hospitals and now a halfway house near Crystal Lake. But the hockey-masked killer soon returns, and another series of murders begins.

Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (1986): When Tommy Jarvis returns to the graveyard to ensure Jason is dead, he accidentally brings him back to life and now must stop him once again.

Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988): When a teenager accidentally kills her father at Crystal Lake, she discovers her telekinetic powers. Years later, it's these powers that unknowingly resurrect Jason.

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989): Awakened once again, Jason's next revenge mission is to stalk and kill a group of graduating high school students on a cruise to New York.

Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993): The origin of Jason's evil is finally revealed and it's up to the Voorhees family line to destroy him once and for all.

Jason X (2001): Jason X takes the "Friday the 13th" franchise to space. Jason is cryogenically frozen after his body is seized by a government facility near Crystal Lake. Over 400 years later, Earth is uninhabitable and Jason is awakened and brought on a spaceship, where his next killing spree begins.

Freddy vs. Jason (2003): Freddy Krueger of the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" universe teams up with Jason in this crossover film. A decade after Freddy's last rampage, he resurrects Jason with a plan to return to Elm Street.

Friday the 13th (2009): The franchise returns with a fresh cast to reimagine the first four movies in one story. Starring Jared Padalecki, Amanda Righetti, Julianna Guill, Danielle Panabaker and more, the 2009 film follows a group of young adults camping at Crystal Lake where they encounter Jason.

Will there be another 'Friday the 13th' movie?

With 12 movies already and a gutted "Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash" movie including "The Evil Dead" antagonist, it may seem like the 2009 film was truly the end of the "Friday the 13th" franchise.

But Jason fans can rejoice – A24 is producing a series for Peacock. While there's no release date announced, Variety reported "Crystal Lake" will be an "expanded prequel" written by Bryan Fuller, who created thriller series "Hannibal."
