Celebrate Halloween early with these five spooky events

Although Halloween isn't until the end of the month, the Blue Water Area community has ways to celebrate all month long.

In addition to crisp fall weather, there are haunted houses, a showing of a cult favorite movie and Oktoberfest; every event is bound to bring fun. Here are six local events to celebrate October.

River Rec Teen Zone Haunted Hospital

Located at 300 Broadway St. in Marine City, the River Rec Teen Zone is hosting its second haunted house. Admission is $10 and goes to support the Rec Center’s programs. This year's theme is haunted hospital.

The haunted hospital is open from 8 to 10 p.m. every weekend leading up to Halloween. Six scare zones were created for the haunt, including a mad scientist’s lab.

Participants will be rewarded for their bravery with popcorn, provided by the River Rec Teen Zone. Additionally, there will be a selfie station at the end of the haunted hospital.

Forget about frightening movie characters Annabelle and Chucky; these baby dolls are sure to give you the creeps. The Sanilac County Historic Village and Museum is conducting its second creepy baby doll contest at the historic train depot on the museum grounds.

The dolls were provided by members of St. Clair and Sanilac counties. Nearly 80 dolls are entered into the contest. Vote on your favorite creepy doll by placing money inside a jar in front of the doll. The three dolls with the most money receive first-, second- and third-place ribbons.

The money collected goes to support the Sanilac County Historic Village and Musuem.

Oktoberfest

McMorran Place will host Oktoberfest from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15. The event is free, but people are encouraged to bring money for food and drinks. German food will be provided by No Forks Given.

Competitive events will take place at Oktoberfest, including a keg race, yodeling and more. Children-centered events, such as facepainting, will be taking place as well.
