Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at these 8 Sioux Falls businesses

Everyone knows Sioux Falls staples such as Giliberto's, but since Giliberto's was established, the city has become home to a multitude of other "hidden gems" for Hispanic cuisine.

Hispanic Heritage Month started as a week-long celebration in 1968 when then-President Lyndon Johnson signed the law into action. Then, in 1988, the week was expanded to a month-long event following legislation that was eventually signed by then-president Ronald Reagan.

The month celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. As you take part in celebrating that history and culture in Sioux Falls, here's a closer look at some of those "hidden gems."

Guatelinda

Three years ago, Guatelinda opened its doors on the east side of Sioux Falls. The Guatemalan bakery specializes in sweet breads including cookies, cakes and muffins. The store is located at 919 E. 8th St., in Sioux Falls.
