Celebrate July 4th In Newport Beach 2020

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — The Fourth of July in Newport Beach will look different in 2020, but that doesn't mean that celebrations cannot occur.

Newport Beach Police have offered some suggestions for residents and visitors who plan on celebrating the 4th of July amid coronavirus. Newport Beach Police have asked that you follow the rules for community guidelines, and avoid the fines that are tripled on this holiday.

In order to make the most of the holiday, it's important to know what is and is not allowed, according to a Newport Beach Police spokesperson.

Public drinking on sidewalks, beaches, piers and other public spaces is prohibited. Even if you pour a beverage into a cup.

Fireworks are illegal in Newport Beach. Safe and Sane fireworks such as fountains and sparklers that you can purchase in nearby cities are also prohibited here.

Rooftop gatherings are not allowed.

Throwing water balloons, spraying water on pedestrians, bicyclists or vehicles are not allowed.

Avoid the "Safety Enhancement Zone" between 12:01 a.m. on July 4th to 3 a.m. on July 5th.

The zone is bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the south, 32nd Street and Newport Boulevard on the east, W. Coast Highway on the North, and 54th STreet on the West.

It should be a red-letter day for the beach, and all ocean and bay beaches are open to the public from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. from Santa Ana River Jetty ot Crystal Cove State Park.

Remember, that the Crystal Cove Beaches close at sunset.

If you plan on swimming, swim near a lifeguard and ask if there are any ocean conditions, such as rip currents, you should be aware of.

If you are barbecuing, only use public barbecues at the Balboa Pier and Corona Del Mar STate Beach. Those fire rings are first come, first served, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Public restroom facilities will be open at the base of both piers.

If you're having a party or gathering? Remember, you are responsible for the behavior of your guests, police say.

"Loud and unruly parties requiring a police response could result in a citation or even arrest for those present," police say. Fines are also possible. In order to avoid that, these guidelines were offered:

  • Limit the number of guests you invite.

  • Be sure that no guest leaves your property carrying an alcoholic beverage.

  • Ensure no minors are consuming alcohol on your property.

  • Keep the volume down, with music and with raucous behavior.

  • Do not allow the throwing of water balloons, or spraying of water at pedestrians or vehicles.

  • Ask that your guests limit their travel in and out of West Newport Beach, due to travel restrictions.

  • Be courteous to your neighbors, and bring your party inside after dark. Close your doors and windows and prevent loud voices and music from disturbing others.

  • Keep your outdoor lights on.
