Celebrate Memorial Day weekend with these events, concerts around Jackson

Memorial Day weekend is a time to remember U.S. service members who laid down their lives in service to the nation so all can enjoy the freedoms we have in the United States.

It has become a time for family events as celebrations as well.

This three-day holiday weekend is no exception with plenty of events to enjoy in the area.

Car shows, live music performances, concerts and more are all part of the mix. Here is a roundup of some of the top events you can enjoy this Memorial Day weekend with family and friends.

5th Annual Corvettes for Vets Memorial Weekend Open Car Show

S.H.I.E.L.D. Corvette Club will once again host this event that helps collect funds to support local veterans. There will be prizes, giveaways and musical entertainment.

When: Saturday, May 27

Where: Outlets of Mississippi, 200 Bass Pro Dr, Pearl

Admission: Free.

Time: 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Memorial Day Outlet Mall Sale 

The public can enjoy sales and savings from their favorite store brands.

When: Friday, May 26 through Sunday, May 29

Time: No specific time. Open to the public.

Mississippi Classic Cruisers Memorial Day Car Show

Locals can come out to enjoy the Memorial Day car show featuring a variety of vehicles.

Categories include: Trucks, jeeps, import and antique classic cars.

When: Saturday, May 27

Where: McClain Resort, 874 Holly Bush Road, Brandon

Admission: Registration fee to enter is $25. Registration starts at 10 a.m. First place cash prize and Ttophy for each category.

Time: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

PBS’ National Memorial Day Concert

The 34th annual National Memorial Day Concertwill air on PBS and stream on www.pbs.org/national-memorial-day-concert and YouTube and will be hosted by Tony Award-winner Joe Mantegna and Emmy Award-winner Gary Sinise, who are both actors, and the event is dedicated to veterans. The concert will remember fallen heroes and the Gold Star families.

Fooshee’s Forecast (Widespread Panic Pre-Party)

The Atlanta band, led by Jon Fooshee, will be performing some of their rock/blues hits here in Jackson at Martin.

Widespread Panic 

Widespread Panic has been together 30 years. Longtime friends and group since college, the band has 12 studio albums. They will be performing live in Brandon two days this weekend.

Raphael Semmes

Come out and enjoy a special Saturday night appearance by The Raphael Semmes Quartet.
