Celebrate National French Fry Day, ice cream stops, no-cook summer meals: Fall River Eats

The summer heat has reached its peak and it's just too hot to turn on the oven. No one feels like cooking, and who could blame them.

This week's installment of Fall River Eats features places to keep cool, grab some grub, and keep those summer vibes going without breaking a sweat.

Here's a roundup of some meal deals and delicious offerings across Greater Fall River:

TGIF: Thank goodness it's Fry-day

Attention fast food junkies: This is our time. National French Fry Day is upon us. Celebrated the second Friday in July, this foodie "holiday" falls on July 14 this year. So make this Friday an extra special Fry-day by ordering up some perfectly prepared spuds at your favorite spot. We suggest checking out Nick’s Original Coney Island Hot Dogs, a Fall River foodie institution that's famous for more than just their meaty chili sauce topped franks. Try their tender, only slightly crispy fry that’s not the least bit greasy by today’s fast food standards. Top them with a bit of salt and malt vinegar, ketchup, or smother them in cheese to complete your tasty tater treat. Drop in at their two locations: 543 South Main St. or 2069 South Main St. You can also get in on National French Fry Day deals at popular fast food chains like McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, and more.

Grab your cup or cone at The Shack, located just outside Pink Bean's 202 Slades Ferry Avenue site, on the weekends. Also on the menu are frozen yogurt and vegan ice cream options, as well as chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches.

Amid these scorching temps, it can be hard to stay chill. Luckily you can add places like Joe-Mags to your summer survival guide. The South End shop made its debut in April just a stone's throw from the Post Office and Lisbon Seafood, near Globe Four Corners. Those seeking a refresher, can pop into 1438 South Main St., Fall River, and grab their own New York style Icee. Flavors include blue raspberry, cherry, coconut, green apple, mango, pink lemonade, rainbow and strawberry lemonade.
