Celebrate National Taco Day with these Charlotte restaurants
If you love tacos — and who doesn’t? — your time has arrived. National Taco Day falls on Oct. 4, placing this year’s celebration on Taco Tuesday.
Restaurants all across Charlotte — and the country — are celebrating National Taco Day, and you can join in by sipping a margarita, dipping a few quesabirria or digging into a plate of crunchy tacos at a local Mexican restaurant. Discounts are hard to come by this year, though. (We suspect increased food and labor costs have something to do with that.)
Here’s where to get your local taco fix:
1900 Mexican Grill

What to know: You can celebrate National Taco Day at 1900 Mexican Grill, where tacos are $2.50 every Tuesday. Choices include carne asada, carnitas, fish, alambre, chicharron de pollo, al pastor and veggie.

AmiMaya Latin Cuisine

What to know: At AmiMaya (named for the owner’s daughters), you can get three tacos with your choice of chicken, steak, stew beef or veggies for $7.95-$9.50. And because it is National Taco Day, we highly recommend you celebrate by adding queso blanco to your order for $2.95.
El Toro Bruto

What to know: Go big for National Taco Day at El Toro Bruto, where its Tacos Brutos are touted as being “as big as a burrito.” They’re $9 each, with a choice of carne asada, carnitas, lengua, al pastor, barbacoa, chicken picadillo or rajas (vegetarian).

Maria’s Mexican Restaurant

What to know: Maria’s Mexican specializes in quesabirria tacos, cheesy creations filled with beef stew, cheese, onion and cilantro that are served with beef broth to dip them in. They’re $5.50 each, and you’re going to want a few.

Paco’s Tacos & Tequila
Location: 6401 Morrison Blvd #8a, Charlotte, NC 28211
Neighborhood: SouthPark
What to know: Paco’s Tacos & Tequila is offering a National Taco Day special on its Fried Steak Tacos, topped with shredded lettuce, chili con queso, pico de gallo and fresh cilantro, served on your choice of tortilla. Get one taco for $6, a two-taco plate for $17 or a three-taco plate for $20 The meal comes with red rice, citrus chipotle slaw and your choice of charro, black or refried beans.

What to know: Every day can be National Taco Day at Taco El Nevado, where the tacos range from $2.75 to $3.50 each, depending on your choice of protein. Come here for traditional offerings, including campechano (steak and Mexican sausage), chicharron, tripe and tongue.

Tacos El Peladito

What to know: You can go all in on Taco Tuesday at Tacos El Peladito, where you can pick from 19 protein choices. All of the restaurant’s tacos are made with 4-inch corn tortillas, and you can add cilantro and onions. Prices per taco start at $2.45 for suadero (brisket) and range up to $3.65 for shrimp.
Taco Mama
Location: 2452 Park Rd Ste. C, Charlotte, NC 28203

What to know: Every week at Taco Mama, you can enjoy half-off Skinny and Mi Casa margaritas after 3 p.m. Pair that drink deal with a taco plate, which comes with two soft flour, soft corn or crispy corn tortillas filled with your choice of protein or veggies, plus a side, chips and salsa. Price ranges from $11 for beef to $15 for ahi tuna.
Tacos Rick-O

What to know: At this food truck stationed at Hoppin’, you can mix and match Tacos Rick-O’s three for $12 tacos, which include options such as campe (carne asada), tinga (chipotle chicken) and veggie.
Taqueria Los Altos

What to know: At Taqueria Los Altos, it’s all about the tacos. Prices start at $2.50 for most tacos, served with cilantro and onion, and top out at $3 for a hard shell taco with lettuce and cheese.
National Taco Day deals from chain restaurants
Participating locations of national restaurant chains are also offering National Taco Day deals this Taco Tuesday. If you’re creative, or just happen to have a taco costume laying around, you can even get a free meal (but don’t forget to tip anyway).
