Celebrating 4/20 in Michigan: 2023 deals and events for weed lovers

Weed's biggest day of the year is around the corner and so are all the deals and events that come along with it.

Here are some things you do not want to miss as a Michigan pot lover celebrating 4/20 this year.

4/20 store deals

SKYMINT (24 locations)

The state's largest recreational marijuana license holder, SKYMINT, is "giving away thousands of dollars in free weed in their Countdown to 4/20 sweepstakes," according to a news release. Each day, from April 10-20, one winner will be randomly selected for exclusive prizes.

  • Eight people will win party packs from weed brands only available at SKYMINT.

  • One person will win a weekend trip in the form of an Airbnb Gift Card, along with party packs.

  • One person will win the ultimate prize: free weed for one year, provided as a $500 monthly coupon allowance through SKYMINT’s loyalty program.

No purchase is necessary to enter the giveaway, just walk into any of the 24 SKYMINT locations in Michigan, sign up at their in-store kiosk and follow them on Instagram @SkymintOfficial.

Quality Roots (6 locations)

To celebrate 4/20, Quality Roots will be hosting a four-day "Route to 420" event, from April 20-23 — with unique giveaways, free weed and merchandise.

"The whole store will be discounted," said Quality Roots owner Aric Klar. "We'll have some food vendors at some stores, some music vendors at some other stores, but (Quality Roots is) primarily focused on utilizing 4/20 as a customer appreciation weekend so everything will be at prices that most of our customers haven't seen before."

The first 100 customers at all Quality Root stores on 4/20 will receive a $25 gift card, the first 200 will be entered to win a $1,000 Visa gift card, and the first 500 customers will get a free 1.2-gram pre-roll.

Vendors will be at each location, passing out goodies to customers in line. Friday, April 21 will be free gram Friday at Quality Roots, where every customer who comes in "gets a free gram on us," Klar said. On Saturday, April 22, customers will each get a free pre-roll. Each night, between 8 and 10 p.m., workers will be handing out free gummy edibles.

Quality Roots' newest location opened in Berkely on April 5; they will be celebrating all month long with giveaways, deals, DJs, and food vendors, according to a news release. This will be the first cannabis retailer in the city of Berkley and one of the largest in Oakland County.

Lume (32 locations)

Starting Wednesday, April 12, all Lume locations will have various deals leading up to 4/20 — with 20% off flower, $5 off the new Lume Rip disposables and 30% off everything else.

Food trucks will also be available at each Lume location on 4/20.

STIIIZY's 4/20 in house deals apply to all three locations in Michigan. From April 15-20, customers can buy one of the following STIIIZY products and get another for $1:

House of Dank (9 locations)

To celebrate 4/20 House of Dank will have BOGO deals on edibles, ounces of flower starting at $49, concentrates as low as $10 and cartridges and disposables for as low as $15.

All House of Dank locations are also collaborating with Primitiv, a cannabis research company, to hold a social media giveaway for a signed Calvin Johnson jersey on 4/20. Johnson is a former wide receiver who played for the Detroit Lions for nine seasons.

Pure Roots (4 locations)

Pure Roots in Ann Arbor, Center Line, Lansing and Battle Creek will have 4/20 deals from April 17-20.

The Flower Bowl (Inkster)

The Flower Bowl in Inkster will be giving 200 customers gift bags that will include three samples of Mojo or Quicky gummies, a vape cart, and a lanyard; some bags will include a Jeeter product. Customers will also receive free T-shirts and trays, and the store will be raffling off a TV and a Stündenglass Gravity Bong.

New Standard Cannabis (8 locations)

Customers at all New Standard locations will have the chance to purchase a limited-edition hemp tote bag filled with over 14 different products from Michigan brands, according to their news release. The bundle is valued at over $325 but will be available for $169 on 4/20.

"Shoppers can expect to find items like an eighth of organic flower from Ann Arbor’s Apothecare, 100mg bag of Potdots candied coated chocolates from Lansing based Lion Labs, and a very special London Pound Cake Gift Box from Glorious Cannabis Co.," stated the release. "Beginning Monday 4/17 through Sunday 4/23, New Standard Shoppers can also expect to find a wide range of Michigan brands heavily discounted for the 4/20 holiday including 'The Michigan Eighth' or 1/8th pound of cannabis flower from Beaverton Farms or SuperSuper Turbo for only $99."

Jeeter Mart pop-ups

Jeeter, the No. 1 pre-roll company in the U.S., is currently on a pop-up tour around dispensaries in Michigan, Arizona and California. Each pop-up starts at 4:20 p.m. and allows customers to purchase a variety of pre-rolls, cartridges, disposables, weed-infused drinks and snacks, and Jeeter Mart apparel. With each purchase, customers get a free 1g Piña Colada pre-roll.

"The popular fast-food chain will offer a 20% discount on online orders with the code CRAVINGS," according to a news release. "It’s White Castle’s way of recognizing the unofficial holiday of the cannabis culture."

Red Lobster Ultimate Endless Shrimp

From Thursday through Sunday, customers will be able to enjoy endless shrimp at any Red Lobster location — during their Ultimate Endless Shrimp for $20 offer.

Guests will be able to mix and match Red Lobster’s shrimp dishes – choosing from Garlic Shrimp Scampi, Parrot Isle Jumbo Coconut Shrimp, Shrimp Linguini Alfredo, Walt’s Favorite Shrimp, and Grilled Shrimp Skewer.

Diners will first enjoy two "shrimp preparations to start," then "order additional shrimp dishes one at a time until their cravings are satisfied," according to their news release.

Smashburger 4/20 deal (2 locations)

For one day only, on Thursday, Smashburger will have a special deal — 4 burgers for $20. Whether you are celebrating 4/20 or not, this deal is "the perfect way to split an awesome deal with friends," according to the company.

There are two Smashburger locations in Michigan:

4/20 local events

420 Music Festival

The City of Detroit approved the first 420 Music Festival, allowing people to legally smoke at the public event on April 29 in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood.

The block party with have live music by local DJs and performances by Zion Lion and Motor City Vibrations.

  • Location: 2000 Brooklyn St., Detroit.

  • Date and time: Saturday, April 29, from 12-11 p.m.

  • Tickets: General admission tickets are $30, while VIP tickets are $100 and include a festival gift bag, exclusive seating and access to a bar and food.

Weed Bar 420 Bus Tour

The Weed Bar's 4th annual Bus Tour will be making its rounds on Thursday, so hop on board weed lovers.

"We will be making 3 dispensary stops and 1 grow facility stop," according to the event post. "The Lit and Luxury VIP Bus will be rolling in style with complimentary drinks, light refreshments, prizes and lots of entertainment."

  • Location: 600 River Place Dr., Detroit

  • Date and time: Thursday, April 20, from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

  • Tickets: $60 for general admission which includes 4 stops and 1 raffle ticket; $150 for VIP admission which includes a super swag bag, 4 stops, complimentary drinks and light refreshments.

New Standard Cannabis party

In addition to store deals, New Standard Cannabis is partnering up with "Lion Labs, Apothecare, The Gallery Society, and Further Frequencies to throw 'The pARTy' at the Tangent Gallery in Detroit," on Thursday and Friday, according to the release. "'The pARTy' is an interactive music and art experience featuring high-end sound and stage design, immersive art installations, unique artist performances, and more."

Attendees will be able to enjoy several local and national acts like Snakes & Stars, Cloudchord, Johnny & The Drop Tops, Opal and Jonny Kane, along with multiple art installations, according to New Standard Cannabis.
