Celebrating New Year's Eve in the 517? Here's what's planned in Greater Lansing

LANSING — If you're looking for details about when and where you can celebrate New Year's Eve in Greater Lansing, Sarah Pierce may be your best resource.

Seven years after she founded 517 Living.com, a working online calendar of events and activities in and around Greater Lansing, Pierce said she knows better than most what's planned for any given holiday in the 517 — the area of central and southern Michigan delineated by its telephone area code.

"I would consider myself pretty much an expert on fun things to do and events, for sure," she said.

That's because at 517 Living.com and on the website's Facebook page, area residents and businesses share what they're planning in and around Lansing daily. Growing the site's comprehensive calendar has been "an organic, gradual process," Pierce said.

"Before I started 517 Living I felt completely out of the loop," she said. "I always felt like I was the last one to find out about things and it was usually when they were already over. Now, I feel like I'm in the loop. When I hear about events, I was either at the event or I know someone who was at the event. I usually know the organizers."

You can be in the know, too, Pierce said, just by visiting the website. It's a resource she's hoping area residents will consider using if they'd like to find an event to attend and celebrate the arrival of 2023.
