Celebration of life to remember musician, cancer victim Hopkins

LAFAYETTE, Ind. − Friends, family and fans of Dustin Hopkins, a former member of Purdue Varsity Glee Club, will gather next month to remember the talented musician and bring awareness to the form of cancer that took his life.

A celebration of life will be held in remembrance of Hopkins at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at Thomas Duncan Community Hall, 619 Ferry Street in Lafayette.

According to an announcement from the Hopkins' family, "Family, friends and fans are invited to gather, remember and share in their memories of this unique and beloved icon of the Lafayette community."

Auction will support Glioblastoma research

In late July, Hopkins passed away after a battle with a rare form of brain cancer, Glioblastoma.

A silent auction will be held in support of Glioblastoma research. Donations will also be accepted to fund a physical memorial in Dustin's honor.

According to Hopkins' obituary, "While at Purdue, Dustin sang with the Purdue Varsity Glee Club where he was the first member from Rossville, and traveled the world sharing his passion and gift of music. Dustin worked for WLFI and then for Bob Rohrman for 17 years, where he was able to be around cars, which was another passion of his... His love for music took him to performing with Moonshine Mason Band and Lafayette Big Swing Band."

Moonshine Mason & Rot Gut Gang, the Big Swing Band, Black Rock Serenaders and the Purdue Varsity Glee Club Alumni will perform at this celebration of life.

Dustin is survived by parents, John Hopkins and Ann (Tom) Ohl; Sister, Neely (Chris Robinson) Hopkins; brother, Ben (Rhonda) Hopkins; aunts, Kim (Chris) Howland and Ginny Hufford; uncle, Alan (Evelyn) Gish; along with nieces, nephews and friends.
