Celebration of life set for Wilton Manors Mayor Justin Flippen

The celebration of life for Wilton Manors Mayor Justin Flippen will be held at 6 p.m. March 6 at The Venue Fort Lauderdale.

Flippen, whose election in 2018 gave Florida its first all-LGBTQ city commission, was remembered as an “inspiring leader” and “so encouraging.” He died Tuesday evening of a brain aneurysm at the age of 41.

“Justin led by example by being a strong leader. Our community was better because of his hard work and he will be deeply missed,” The Pride Center said in a Facebook post following his death.

His family respectfully asks for donations to the Justin Flippen Memorial Fund at Our Fund or to the United Church of Christ Fort Lauderdale instead of flowers or gifts. The Justin Flippen Memorial Fund aims to provide financial support for Florida LGBTQ+ students with dreams of pursuing a career in public service.

To donate to the United Church of Christ Fort Lauderdale, checks may be sent to 2501 NE 30th St. in Fort Lauderdale, 33306. Credit card donations to the Justin Flippen Memorial Fund can be made here while checks should be mailed to 1201 NE 26th St., Suite 108 in Wilton Manors, 33305.

Doors open at 6 p.m. The Venue Fort Lauderdale is located at 2345 Wilton Dr. Ride sharing is encouraged due to limited parking.

More information will be made available through the city’s website as well as its Facebook and Twitter pages.
