Lionel Messi’s long wait for a major international title finally ended on July 10, as Argentina beat hosts Brazil 1-0 to claim the country’s first Copa America since 1993.

The win came after final defeats in 2015 and 2016, and in the same stadium where a Messi-inspired Argentina came up short in the World Cup final against Germany.

Angel Di Maria scored the game’s only goal, with Messi himself slipping as he looked poised to make it 2-0 with minutes to go.

Messi nonetheless ended the tournament as joint top scorer, with four goals, and leader in assists, with five.
