Celebrity Engagements of 2018: Lea Michele, Ed Sheeran and More

While proposal season is finally here, several famous couples have already said “yes” to their soulmates and partners this year. Grammy winner Ed Sheeran started 2018 with the announcement that he’s engaged to girlfriend Cherry Seaborn. (Fast forward to months later, and it’s now speculated that they have since exchanged vows). Glee‘s Lea Michele also revealed her romantic engagement to Zandy Reich in April, while romantic comedy queen Meg Ryan confirmed several weeks ago that she’s marrying John Mellencamp.

Below, we round up some of the top celeb engagements of the year and their announcements so that you can be inspired to do the same for when your time arrives.

Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn

He must think she’s perfect. Singer Ed Sheeran proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Cherry Seaborn, over the holidays, and announced the exciting news via social media in late January. “Got myself a fiance just before new year,” he captioned a sweet photo of the two of them. “We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx.”

The pair share two cats named Calipo and Dorito. They first started dating in the summer of 2015, when they met at Taylor Swift’s annual star-studded Fourth of July party at her home in Watch Hill, Rhode Island.

Lea Michele and Zandy Reich

This songbird is officially off the market. Former Glee star Lea Michele got engaged to her boyfriend, Zandy Reich, this past April, after dating for just under a year. And it wasn’t just with any ring, either: Reich presented Michele with an impressive 4-carat sparkler, which she showed off in a post to Instagram announcing their engagement with the simple caption, “Yes.” Earlier in the year, she shared a sweet note for her love in celebration of his birthday, recalling how a wedding had actually brought them together.

“Thank god your best friend married my best friend and sat us next to each other at their wedding,” she wrote in January. “And though that was some time ago and I had the pleasure of being you friend for these past few years … now we are on this journey together and I couldn’t be happier … Happy Birthday Z I love you.”

Taraji P. Henson and Kelvin Hayden

When you know, you know. Taraji P. Henson and former NFL player Kelvin Hayden got engaged in May, and the Empire star could hardly contain her excitement. “I said yes y’all!!!” she captioned a photo of her engagement ring set against a plate full of chocolate-covered strawberries. “He started with the Cartier love bracelet BUT that was my #Mothersday gift and then he dropped to his knee and I almost passed out!!! #sheisofficiallyoffthemarket and she is sooooooooooooo HAPPY!!!!!! #GODIS.”

The couple first revealed that they were dating back in December; hours before she revealed the exciting engagement news, Henson had shared a photo of the aforementioned Cartier love bracelets that Hayden gifted her, using the hashtag “ForeverKindaLove.”

Emily Ratajkowski and Sebastian Bear-McClard

When Emily Ratajkowski revealed that she had just gotten married this past February, a number of questions immediately came to mind: Who’s the guy? How long had they been dating? And perhaps most importantly, what does the ring look like? As it turns out, Ratajkowski and her now-husband, Sebastian Bear-McClard, had only been dating for a few weeks when they decided to take the long walk together down the aisle at New York City Hall.

A few months later, the actress revealed that Bear-McClard had in fact not proposed with a ring, but with a paper clip, while the pair was dining at the Minetta Tavern. Not to fear, however: Bear-McClard did eventually get Ratajkowski a proper engagement ring, and judging by the size of it, she didn’t have any complaints.

Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber

After a whirlwind summer romance that kept fans on their toes, Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber got engaged in the Bahamas in late July and got married in New York City just two months later. Though the romance seemed to have come out of left field, the pair have in fact been friends for quite some time, and Baldwin has frequently referred to the singer as her “best friend.”

The couple may still have a bigger religious wedding ceremony yet, but for the time being, the pair is officially off the market.

Zoe Kravitz and Karl Glusman

There are those who are good at keeping secrets, and those who are great at it. Zoe Kravitz is great at it. The Big Little Lies star didn’t let on that she and fiancé Karl Glusman are engaged until she let it slip during an interview with Rolling Stone earlier this fall. The actress revealed to W a few weeks later that she found her engagement ring on Instagram of all places.

“I can be my weirdest self around him,” Kravitz has said of her fiancé. “It’s so relaxing to be around someone where you can be a hundred percent how you feel.”

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas

Happening now. Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas managed to keep their relationship largely under wraps, but in August, both she and the former Jonas Bros. band member were ready to go public with their love. In a sweet photo that both Chopra and Jonas shared in mid-August, Chopra shows off her $200,000 engagement ring front and center.

Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp

The You’ve Got Mail actress took to Instagram on November 8 to announce her relationship status update with a quirky drawing of herself an Mellencamp. “ENGAGED!” she captioned the pic.

Lady Gaga and Christian Carino

The Star Is Born actress confirmed her engagement to Carino in a speech by referring to the agent as “my fiancé Christian.”
