Delving into concocting the perfect spaghetti bolognese, Gino revealed that we've been cooking the Italian staple all wrong.

Gino added that there are "certain rules" you should follow in order to make spaghetti bolognese the "Italian way".

After using both beef and lamb in the dish, in order to give the "desired texture and flavour", Gino explains that milk is needed to tenderise the meats.

The chef said: "Let’s talk about the liquid that goes into the bolognese sauce – we have three liquids that go into there.

"Liquid number 1 – the wine. You’re going to have to put the wine first because you want the alcohol to evaporate and the flavour to stay in there.

"Liquid number 2 – milk, full-fat milk. It tenderises the meat. Liquid number 3 – chicken stock, beef stock or whatever you want."

After adding cow's milk to the dish, the celebs were stunned into silence as Blue's Duncan James exclaimed: "Absolutely not, Gino. I'm dairy-free," while radio presenter Nick Grimshaw added: "No, no, no. I'm out, Gino."

And it wasn't just Duncan and Nick that were left wincing at the inclusion of milk, as dozens of those watching at home also shared their dismay on social media.

Alongside an array of open-mouthed emojis, one person tweeted: "Milk in spaghetti bolognese – has Gino officially lost his mind?"

Echoing their comments, someone else said: "Gino has lost the plot. Who on earth would put full-fat milk in a spag bol?

Meanwhile, a third added: "Gino, you're a top chef, but who on earth puts milk in spaghetti bolognese?"

A slew of familiar faces have returned for Celebrity Gogglebox's fifth series including Zoe Ball, Rylan Clark, Denise Van Outen, Shaun Ryder, Mo Gilligan, Katherine Ryan and more.

Gogglebox airs and streams on Friday nights at 9pm on Channel 4.
