Cellular signal boost work this month
May 6—Creston residents are expected to see later this month crews install fiber cables in certain parts of town and along U.S. Highway 34.
Creston City Council was informed Tuesday by David Frazier a representative of Bluebird Network hired by U.S. Cellular for the installation of dark fiber. The fiber is to improve internet service.
Frazier expects work to include boreing including in the right-of-way. Frazier said lawn flags will be placed on work areas. He also expects residents in the working areas to be notified in advance by information left on front doors of houses. The work is expected to last through summer.
Frazier said similar work is planned for Osceola and Shenandoah.
In other council news:
Council vetoed a third and final reading of the solar energy system and small cell guideline ordinance. Further review recommended a revision of explanation of certain items forcing council to veto the proposal. After the edits, council will begin the reading process. Council also unanimously voted no on the agreement with Southwest Iowa Planning Council over details in a contract and will further review.
Council approved a purchase of two John Deere diesel riding lawn mowers and a plow attachment from AgriVision totaling $48,100. Including a trade-in of a 2017 model, council paid $40,600. Council also approved the purchase of a Prodigy skid steer plow from Big Boyz Toyz at $5,009.
A public hearing was set for 6 p.m., May 17 for amending the fiscal year 2022 budget.
A public hearing was set for 6 p.m., May 17 for the vacation of alley south of Mills Street between Palm and Ash streets, and Montgomery Street between Palm and Ash streets. The area is adjacent to the city's public works building.
Approval was given for payments of $14,845 and $74,711 to Cornerstone Commercial Contractors for Uptown Creston facade work.
