Although it’s likely the Celtics’ biggest acquisition of the summer has already received his new jersey and made his hellos, Boston has made some moves since NBA free agency opened on Friday night.

MONDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE:

The Celtics reportedly bolstered their backcourt, adding former Toronto Raptors point guard Dalano Banton on a two-year deal, NBA Insider Shams Charania reported Monday.

The 46th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Banton grew up in Canada but has roots in Massachusetts. Banton split his prep school career between Redemption Christian Academy in Northfield and The MacDuffie School in Granby.

The lengthy and athletic wing thrives in transition and can guard 1 through 3. Banton’s outside shooting leaves much to be desired as the 27.5% three-point shooter has struggled to find a consistent shooting stroke two years into his NBA career. But the 23-year-old’s rangy athleticism will have utility in a Boston backcourt transitioning from the Marcus Smart era.

SATURDAY 7/1 UPDATE:

Kristaps Porzingis and the Celtics have reportedly finalized a two-year extension that will keep the 2018 All-Star on Boston’s books through 2026. Porzingis picked up his $36 million player option earlier this month to facilitate the trade that landed him in Boston and shipped longtime Celtic Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Porzingis has yet to hit the court for the Celtics but has appeared to give them a hometown discount. The 7′3″ Latvian big man was eligible for a two-year, $77 million extension but only signed for $60 million.

Porzignis is coming off a bounce-back season in Washington both from a health and statistical standpoint. In 65 games for Washington last year, the most he played since 2017, Porzignis averaged 23.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks, while shooting 38.5% from distance.

The Celtics also shored up their wing depth, signing forward Oshae Brissett to a two-year deal with a player option in the second year, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The deal is for the minimum, according to Spotrac’s Keith Smart.

Oshae Brissett averaged 16.7 minutes in 65 games for the Indiana Pacers this past season. After shooting above 40% from the field in 2021 and 2022, the Syracuse product’s marksmanship dipped last year, shooting 38.6% from the field and 31% from three-point range.

Brissett also brings versatility and size that the Celtics can use as a plug-and-play role to fill defensive gaps. Last year, opponents scored 3.4 fewer points per 100 possessions with him on the court than when Brissett shifted to the bench.

If the name rings a bell, it’s because Brissett unleashed the best game of his career to this point against the Celtics in 2022.

During a stretch in which the Celtics went 22-3 with a +16 scoring margin, Brissett torched Boston, scoring a game-high 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field and 6-of-p shooting from behind the arc.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
