Celtics Talk: Overreactions to Boston's wild season-opener originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
The Boston Celtics' wild season opener vs. the New York Knicks left us with plenty to react to, but Jaylen Brown tops the list.
The All-Star wing dropped a career-high 46 points in Boston's 138-134 overtime loss. The effort helped make up for a rough season debut from Jayson Tatum, who tallied 20 points but shot just 7 for 30 from the field and 2 for 15 from 3-point range.
As the C's turn the page to Friday night's home opener vs. the Toronto Raptors. Chris Forsberg is joined by Boston.com's Tom Westerholm on a brand new episode of the Celtics Talk Podcast to overreact to Game 1 of 82.
"Jaylen was awesome, and I think the other takeaway is the Celtics are going to be as good as he and Jayson Tatum are this season," Westerholm said. "And if Jayson Tatum struggles like that, or if Jaylen Brown had a night like Jayson Tatum did, I feel like the Celtics are going to have a hard time beating some of the better teams in the East."
Westerholm went on to break down his biggest takeaways from Brown's eye-opening performance.
"The variety of baskets that he made, the different ways that he scored," Westerholm said. "Like, he wasn't just hot from 3, he was also getting to the rim, he was hitting those turnaround jumpers that he's really good at. I mean, he was genuinely phenomenal. Obviously, the Celtics would've had no chance if it wasn't for his heroics. He just seems to get better every year and it seems like it's plausible that he's done it again."
