Center City's annual Deck the Herd contest underway

Center City of Amarillo is once again celebrating the holidays with the Deck the Herd contest. The Shops at Wolflin Square is co-sponsor of the contest.

Center City has invited the owners of the more than 110 Hoof Prints fiberglass horses to celebrate the season by decorating their Hoof Prints Horse.

“The Hoof Prints project began in 2002 as a partnership with Center City and the American Quarter Horse Association. Now, we mark the 20th anniversary of the art project with the Deck the Herd contest,” said Beth Duke, Center City executive director.

Businesses sent photos of their decorated Hoof Prints horses to Center City. The photos are posted on the Center City of Amarillo Facebook page. Center City encourages friends to go to the Center City of Amarillo Facebook page and vote for their favorite horse. Voting ends on Friday, Dec. 16.

Winners will be announced next week. The Shops at Wolflin Square sponsor the prizes for Deck the Herd.

“Thanks to everyone who decorated their horse and entered the contest. As we add horses to the Hoof Prints project, we hope this project will grow,” Duke said.

Center City began Hoof Prints in partnership with the American Quarter Horse Association. The goals of Hoof Prints are to promote art in public places, to celebrate our Western heritage and to raise funds to beautify downtown.

Center City continues to sell the Hoof Prints horses to raise funds for downtown revitalization.
