PERRY TWP. – A Central Catholic student died Sunday evening after he was involved in a crash near Toledo.

School officials confirmed junior Jacob Brown, who was a member of the soccer team, died in the accident.

"Our community is very sad to have to share the news of the loss of Jacob," Principal David Oates said in a statement from the school. "Central Catholic is a small, close-knit community and his loss will be felt deeply by our Crusader family. Students, staff and our families have been informed of his passing.

"We have our guidance counselors, campus minister, and President Father Donald King on hand to talk and pray with any student, staff member or family member who needs them. Please keep Jacob and his family in your prayers.”

According to Maumee police, the single-vehicle crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. Sunday along U.S. Route 24, shutting down the roadway for several hours. Further details about the crash were not available.

King, president of Stark County Catholic Schools, said the school must come together in prayer and asked the community to join in praying for Brown, his family and friends "who need God's comfort now more than ever."

The school canceled a Booster Club meeting scheduled for Monday night and the boy's soccer sectional tournament game that was to be played today has been postponed at the request of the team. The game was rescheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at home against Loudonville. At the start of the game, Brown and his family will be remembered.

The senior class also canceled the "Beat Aquinas" bonfire planned for Tuesday and asked that community members honor Brown by attending the soccer team’s sectional game and wearing white.

The Beat Aquinas pep rally scheduled for Thursday also has been canceled. Students have requested a prayer service for Brown be held instead of the rally.

Brown also will be remembered at the start of our home football game against St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday.
