PERRY TWP. – An inappropriate social media post has resulted in a Central Catholic student being removed from school.

Township Police Chief Michael Pomesky said Wednesday that the high school student had posted something that "could be interpreted" as violent on the social media overnight.

David Oates, principal of Central Catholic High School, said there were no threats made and no violence occurred.

"We were made aware of a concern about a post on a student's social media and we took the appropriate action, notifying police," he said.

Pomesky dismissed rumors of a gun being brought to the private Catholic school and rumors of a direct threat to another student or students, but declined to say what the post stated.

"It created alarm in the district," he said. "Concerns were called in to the school."

At no time was anyone in danger, but school officials notified police, who greeted the student when he arrived at school, Pomesky said.

The student was taken into the office and has been removed from the school, he said.

The investigation remained open later Wednesday, but the young man has not been charged or cited.

Pomesky said that when the investigation is completed, results will be reviewed by the juvenile prosecutor's office.
