Central Connecticut State University midfielder Roma McLaughlin has been named to the preseason watch list for the Hermann Trophy, perhaps the nation’s most prestigious college soccer award.

The trophy goes to the top individual player in Division I women’s soccer.

McLaughlin, a senior from Greencastle County Donegal, Ireland, is already a highly-decorated player. The 24-year-old has earned 10 caps for Ireland’s national team, earning a spot on the squad for World Cup qualifiers, which will continue in September.

At Central last season, McLauglin notched a team-high 21 points (nine goals, three assists) and was named the Northeast Conference Midfielder of the Year. She helped lead CCSU to the NEC championship, scoring a goal and adding an assist in the 3-0 title-game win over Fairleigh Dickinson. Central bowed out to Georgetown in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Sixty players across Division I were named to the watch list. The award, which is voted on by Division I coaches, will be handed out following the season in January.
