Central Florida anchor Nancy Alvarez joins WESH 2

Award-winning Central Florida anchor Nancy Alvarez is heading back to the anchor desk in 2023. WESH 2 has announced that Alvarez will be joining the station’s news team in January.

Alvarez is well-known to Central Florida viewers, most notably as an award-winning member of the WFTV Channel 9 team, a position she left in 2021 to become Heart of Florida United Way’s senior vice president of community relations and equity impact.

“I learned a lot this year during my time away from the anchor desk. I saw Central Florida’s challenges up close and worked side by side with people who are making an impact,” Alvarez said. “With the support of the great team at WESH 2, I look forward to turning those lessons into action, both on the air and off, for a community I love so much.”

“We are thrilled Nancy will be a part of the WESH 2 News team in January,” said Stephanie Linton, WESH 2 news director, in a news release. “Nancy has built strong connections with our community through her integrity, credibility, and public service. As a journalist, she has covered Central Florida with authenticity and compassion.”

Alvarez will anchor WESH 2 News at noon and 4 p.m. and will also provide Spanish language content on sister station Estrella TV Orlando. Her exact start date will be shared in the coming weeks.
