Apr. 6—NEVADA — The Central Iowa United girls soccer team opened its season with a 4-1 road loss to Nevada on Monday.

The Cubs led 2-0 at halftime. CIU scored its first goal of the season in the second half.

Avery Fricke put a corner kick from Tori Bienfang into the back of the net. Elise Robertson had 12 saves in goal for CIU.

CIU head coach Sadie Jones said her team continues to improve and they did a nice job of possessing the ball in the second 40 minutes.

"The effort in the second half was great," Jones said. "The defensive backs — Grace Tollefson, Reilly Jenson, Maggie Pritchard and Kendyl Stevenson — worked their tails off. We also had great energy from the girls off the bench."
