Central Kentucky man known for selflessness killed in hunting accident, officials say

A Versailles man died Saturday as a result of a hunting accident, according to the Kentucky Department Fish and Wildlife Resources.

The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. at Gilberts Creek Road in Lawrenceburg. The fish and wildlife department said Jared Hausfeld, 37, got into a struggle with a wounded deer he hoped to harvest and died as a result.

Hausfeld’s body was sent on to the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s office in Frankfort for an autopsy, the fish and wildlife department said. The fish and wildlife department is conducting an investigation.

Hausfeld was a loving family man and a country boy at heart, his obituary said. He had three sons no older than 11 years old.

“He loved the outdoors and wanted to share that passion with his family by taking them on camping and boating trips and teaching his sons to hunt and fish,” Hausfeld’s obituary said.

Hausfeld was also an avid golfer and baseball player, and coached his sons in baseball and golf, according to his obituary. He’s lived in Versailles for the last eight years after growing up in Springboro, Ohio.

Hausfeld earned a degree in business from the University of Tennessee and started a business with his brother-in-law, Zach, at OKT Properties right out of college, according to his obituary. They owned multiple businesses and commercial properties in the tri-state area.

Hausfeld was described in his obituary as a caring husband and selfless man who dedicated his time towards helping others or coaching his sons.

“He was honorable, kind, patient, and generous and would do anything for anyone who needed help, or even just to talk. He embraced a traditional lifestyle and loved his role as provider for his family as he supported Emily in homeschooling the boys,” Hausfeld’s obituary read.
