Central Lafourche’s Ke’Yona Gabriel voted Houma area female athlete of the year

Ke’Yona Gabriel finished her high school track and field career with high accolades.

The Central Lafourche star track athlete won the Class 5A girls long jump (19-feet) and triple jump (40-7 ¼) state championships at the LHSAA state outdoor track and field meet held at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Complex in Baton Rouge on May 7.

Gabriel, a TCU track and field signee, was named the Best of Bayou Preps female athlete of the year winner presented by The Courier and Daily Comet. She closed her high school career with five LHSAA state championship honors, including an indoor state championship in Division I triple jump with a mark of 40-6 ¾.

Gabriel said she was honored to finish her high school career with state championships in the triple and long jump events.

“It was amazing overall,” Gabriel said. “It was a great experience. I really just wanted to go out and have fun because I knew it would be my last high school state meet, so going out there and being able to perfect my craft and do good and do well in both of my events was just overall amazing.”
