Central Louisiana Mardi Gras events include fireworks, Mutt Strut

Parades are great, but here are some other events to consider if you want to celebrate Mardi Gras in Central Louisiana.

Friday, Feb. 10

Pineville Parade After Party

Where: Pop’s Place, 1632 Military Highway, Pineville.

Time: 8-11 p.m.

Food, drinks and entertainment will be available.

Sunday, Feb. 12

Mardi Gras Fireworks

Where: Ward 10 Recreation Complex, 4600 Pardue Road, Ball.

Time: 7 p.m.

Cost: Free.

Friday, Feb. 17

29th annual Taste of Mardi Gras

Where: Ned Randolph Riverfront Center, 707 2nd St., Alexandria.

Time: 7-11:30 p.m.

Area restaurants will provide food and drinks. Chee-Weez will be the headline band. Casual dress but Mardi Gras themed attire encouraged. Cash bar. No trays or coolers allowed.

Cost: General admission, $30; Children under 10, $10; VIP individual ticket, $75 with early admission; VIP table with 8 VIP tickets, $500 and early admission.

Tickets will be sold at door but price will increase by $10. Tickets can be purchased at the Alexandria/Pineville CBV at 707 Second St. in Alexandria, or at web.lra.org.

Saturday, Feb. 18

Mardi Gras At Indian Creek Recreation Area

Where: Indian Creek Recreation Area, 100 Camp Ground Road, Woodworth

Time: 10 a.m. Pet Parade. 1:30 p.m. Golf Cart Parade.

Cost: $7 per vehicle to enter park.

Alexandria Zoo Mardi Gras Party

Where: 3016 Masonic Drive, Alexandria.

Time: 1-4 p.m.

Cost: Regular zoo admission; $8.95 for ages 13-64; $6.95 for children ages 2-12, seniors over 65 and active or retired military with ID. Children 1 and younger free. Friends of the Alexandria Zoo members free with card and photo ID.

Following the Children’s Mardi Gras Parade. King cake, music and more activities. Sponsored by Atwood's Bakery.

The Alexandria Garden District's 8th Annual Mardi Gras Block Party and Mutt Strutt

Where: Corner of Albert and 20th streets in Alexandria.

Time: Starts at 3:30 p.m.

Mardi Gras-themed dog costume competition and parade-style second line. Live band and food following Mutt Strutt and second line.

Cost: Non-perishable food donation for Food Bank of Central Louisiana. $15 per dog to enter dog costume competition. $10 for each additional dog in household. Prizes will be awarded.

Ball’s Third Annual Mardi Gras Ball

Where: Ball Community Center, 100 Municipal Lane, Ball.

Time: 6 p.m.

Cost: $35 per person. Limited to first 100 sold. Contact Chuck Wilking, (318) 640-3763 or (318) 441-7045.

Tickets may be purchased at door.

Casual or formal dress but must be Mardi Gras themed. Food provided but no alcohol allowed.
