Suney's Pub and Restaurant, the Chandler Street business opened by Suney Kachadoorian in 1970, has closed its doors. The pub closed last Thursday without notice. "Selling was not an easy decision and due to lack of staff we couldn’t have an official goodbye, and will not be open any longer," reads a post by the Kachadoorian family on the Suney's Facebook page. Kachadoorian, who died in 2001 at 74, bought the former George's Café from Ralph Garabedian in July 1970. The pub, at 216 Chandler St., was a go-to place for seafood, with generations sharing fish and chips dinners.

More than 300 onlookers watched and cheered as a steel beam, covered in student, staff and faculty signatures, was lifted by a crane and carefully placed at the very top of the of UMass Chan Medical School's future education and research building on Monday. The nine-story, nearly $350 million structure is slated to open in 2024 and will house 77 rare-disease researchers who specialize in gene therapy, molecular medicine and neuroscience. The ceremony included members of the newest class of medical students, Iron Workers Local 7, and Shawmut Design and Construction workers wearing yellow vests.

Warren — ZIP code 01083 — was settled by Europeans in 1664 and incorporated in 1741 as the town of Western. In 1834, its name was changed to Warren after Gen. Joseph Warren, who died at the Battle of Bunker Hill during the American Revolutionary War. The 27.6-square-mile town is bordered by Palmer, Ware, West Brookfield, Brookfield, and Brimfield. The Quaboag River runs through this small town that roughly 5,000 people call home. According to realtor.com, five single family homes are presently for sale in Warren. They range from a 1,312-square-foot three-bedroom listed for $200,000 to a 1,988-square-foot three-bedroom listed at $399,900.

Work on an Amazon distribution center at the site of the former Greendale Mall continues, even among upcoming five closures of centers across Eastern Massachusetts, including Milford. Amazon spokeswoman Caitlin McLaughlin confirmed that the Worcester site will open as scheduled, although she did not specify when. In July 2021, the demolition of the mall was followed by construction work that is quickly materializing plans for a 125,000-square-foot Amazon distribution center. Amazon is expected to pay an estimated $185,901 in property taxes for the warehouse at Neponset Street. It also operates a distribution center at 125 Goddard Memorial Drive in Worcester.

Residents of a partially collapsed apartment building on Mill Street will be receive an additional month's hotel stay, through September, Acting City Manager Eric Batista said. In a statement, Batista said the city, the Central Massachusetts Housing Alliance and the United Way of Central Massachusetts collaborated to provide an additional month's stay for residents of the 32-unit Pond View Apartments on 267 Mill St., while the residents continue to search for housing. On July 15, an early-morning roofing job apparently led to construction material falling through the roof, weakening the apartment building and forcing its evacuation.
