Walmart, under a different corporate name, is applying for a license to sell beer, wine and malt beverages at the Worcester supercenter located at 25 Tobias Boland Way. Originally on the agenda for a License Commission meeting on Thursday, a hearing for the license was postponed to April 20. The applicant on the agenda is Westborough Beverage Corp., a corporate name that Walmart has used in applications with other municipalities. The Worcester Walmart Supercenter previously applied for a beer and wine license in 2011. However, the License Commission rejected the application after opposition from smaller package store owners.

Canal District bar and nightclub Whiskey on Water was issued a three-day suspension for violating occupancy rules March 23 over occupancy at a college-themed event in February. This was the second suspension issued to the bar in two months. On Feb. 2, Whiskey on Water at 97 Water St. hosted an event geared toward college students, Worcester Police Sgt. Thomas Needham said at the License Commission hearing Thursday. The city had received concerned emails from parents about students partaking in underage drinking and having difficulties safely leaving the crowded bar. Three minors were also determined to have been in possession of alcohol with fake IDs.
